1. Smeg BCC02
This sleek, compact, and striking machine, designed by the Milan-based firm Deep Design combines the brand’s retro aesthetic with cutting-edge technology. It takes care of every step of the coffee-making process, from grinding beans and then tamping the beans into a puck to making milk into a texturing process and dispenses the correct volume – so you can make high-quality barista hot drinks at the touch of the button.
The machine also sports an attractive brushed aluminum front and comes in a choice of red, black or taupe, which means it’s easy to integrate into most kitchen designs. It’s not without faults however, as most reviewers thought it was a bit expensive for a bean to cup maker (and it doesn’t come with an milk pitcher).
There were also numerous positive reviews about the quality of the coffee and the ease of using this machine. The digital display provides information and step-bystep instructions throughout the entire brewing procedure that will help you perfect your drink each time. It even allows you to alter the grind size if not enough. It’s like having your very own personal barista at home (minus Elon Musk’s rocket building abilities and Harry Potter’s invisible cape).
This model is ideal for those who like milky drinks. The steam wand is adjustable up and down to fit most drinking vessels, except Viking drinking horns. We were also awed by the speed and efficiency with which the frothing was done. It produces an amazing, full-flavoured espresso with a wonderful crema.
The BCC02 is a great all-rounder. It’s quiet and efficient, and provides excellent value for money at a price that is currently PS499. The only issue is that it does not provide the same level of customisation like other bean-to-cup machines we have tried. It comes with a 15 bar pump, rather than the typical 19 bars that aren’t as efficient to make high-quality espressos. This is a fantastic machine for those who prefer their coffee dark and strong. The only thing that could be a negative for some people is the price. This machine is not inexpensive, with prices that are close to PS999. However, it’s cheaper than similar Jura machines with similar features.
The Barista TS Smart is backed by an impressive warranty, which provides two years of coverage. This is a greater warranty than the typical one-year warranty.
