Claire Our test participant, Claire, was impressed with the packaging. It was simple to open and clean. She found it to be among the most simple and quick pieces of baby equipment to set up. She tried it on some rough terrain and was impressed by its performance.
Seats
The majority of 3 wheel double buggies begin life as single pushchairs, although some can be converted to take the seat of a second person or carrycot with adapters (these are usually more common in tandem buggies). You’ll also see that some models allow you to add a ride-on board for older children who would like to walk, but need some help.
Check out the Joie Evalite Duo for a lightweight option perfect for urban streets. It’s easy to maneuver, and it has an enormous basket that has plenty of storage. It can hold twins as young as birth and accommodate two car seats or seats and a carrycot. The seats must be facing toward the forward direction and there isn’t room to store bags of groceries under the seat. You will need an extra sidepack.
If you like to take off-road trips and off-road, the Mountain Buggy Duet is a good option. It’s a side by side with the smallest footprint of any double buggy available on the market. This allows it to fit through narrow doors and on public transport and enables you to climb up and down kerbs without much trouble. The adjustable handlebar has a handbrake for added security and safety.

It’s an all terrain pushchair, with a soft suspension to make easy work of bumpy surfaces. It has 30 different seating configurations as well as a built-in table for older children who like to walk and a ‘cinema’ mode which raises the back seats for better visibility.
The phil&teds dots are great single buggys that can be easily adapted to accommodate two (or three!) in multiple configurations. This is especially useful when you have a child in a car. The frame can be adapted to a wedgie, which allows for optimal lie-flat positioning. Or car seat adapters that work with a wide range of brands.
Suspension
The quality of the suspension in a 3 wheel double buggy is essential to how it is easy for you and your baby/s to push. A smooth ride is essential as babies can feel every bump on the road, particularly if it’s on rough terrain such as grass or dirt roads. Some models come with locking front tires that help maneuver and get over obstacles like curbs.
Some models have air-filled tyres that are great for all-terrain riding, but they are susceptible to punctures. Make sure you keep a spare set of tyres in your trunk. Certain models come with gel-filled or foam-filled tyres which are designed to cushion bumps. They can be less likely to puncture, but they could be uncomfortable for your child if they decide to run.

Folding
A 3-wheel double buggy folds very neatly to store it. There are options that fold flat and then stand up (as if they’re in a pushchair position) and also those that pop open to reveal a more umbrella-like fold that has a hand-operated brake. In general, the more wheels a buggy has the more comfortable it will be to navigate over rough terrain. This is especially true if your wheels are larger than typical size. You will have more stability and it’s less likely that you be forced to flip or tip your child.
The iCandy Wave is a popular choice. It can be used with an infant car seat from birth and then converted into a double buggy side-byside when your child is old. It’s a lightweight option that is simple to push. It also comes with a bumper bar as well as raincover.

The clever frame can be expanded to accommodate a second seat, but it only weighs about 11kg so it’s easy to lift and manoeuvre. It can be used with a car seat, carrycot, or both. This lets you enjoy the best of both worlds.
